It's winter time, and the weather is getting colder. At this time of the year, most people are changing their wardrobes for warmer clothing and switching on their central heating. You can use including fondant icing, marzipan, candy sprinkles, raisins, peanut butter, marshmallows, fudge, and nuts. Entire books and throngs of websites are devoted to just giving you ideas on how to decorate cupcakes to truly make them yours. This is evidence of the universal appeal of these versatile and delicious desserts.

If you want to decorate your own and are pressed for time, you can just buy plain vanilla or chocolate ones and just do the frosting and decorating. If you don't trust your baking skills, you can go this route and save a lot of effort and at least you are assured of the quality because you got it from a reputable source. You are now free to decorate as you wish and personalize according to your needs.

If you're feeling quite patriotic, all you need to do to have you own "stars and stripes" cupcakes is to get a hold of red, white, and blue frosting or icing and top the plain cakes with them. You can make some with nuts and others with candy sprinkles. For the health conscious you can keep some plain and just top them with dried fruits or raisins. If making holly is more true to your nature, just take glazed cherries as your berries and make the leaves out of fondant icing mixed with a little mint flavoring for a pleasant surprise.

If you want to greet someone or celebrate a day in a special person's life, you can spell it out with cupcakes. Place a letter on each cupcake and arrange them to spell out words. In no time at all, you can have "Happy New Year!" or "Season's Greetings!" spelled in cupcakes decorating your holiday table.

Decorating cupcakes does not have to be too difficult. It just involves a little creativity and a sense of fun. You do not even have to follow a specific recipe book. All you need to do is think of an idea and see if you can follow it through. This is what makes these cute little cakes such a great idea for any party or dessert. They do not cost too much money, time, or effort to make, yet they can be totally personal and a lot of fun.
