Affiliate Marketing ? Make Easy Money Online | WEB-DESIGN,WEB ...

Have you ever wondered what affiliate marketing is?

Affiliate marketing is essentially a way of generating money on the internet whereby you as a publisher are awarded for helping a business by marketing their product, services or website. There are a lot of different ways you can promote a webpage, but in most cases they involve you as a publisher cashing in on a commission when an individual follows a link on your blog to a different web-site where they then buy something.

Commissions are traditionally a percentage of a sale but can also be a fixed amount per conversion. Conversions are traditionally tracked when the publisher (you) uses a link with a code only being used by you embedded into it that will allow for the advertiser to monitor where conversions come from usually by cookies. Other times an advertiser might give the publisher a ?coupon code? for their readers to use that helps them trace conversions. So while there is a bit more to affiliate marketing that gives you a good idea of what affiliate marketing is.

Other alternatives on this are where you receive an amount for referring a visitor who takes some kind of action ? for example, when they sign up for a product and give an email address, where they complete a survey, where they leave a name and address etc..

So when did affiliate marketing online first come about?

The idea of paying commission for referred business actually predates affiliate marketing and the Internet. However, it wasn?t long after the World Wide Web began that the benefits for revenue sharing on the web became apparent. In fact, only 4 years after the world web began, the principles of affiliate marketing transitioned into the world of e-commerce late in 1994.

Amazon, which you most likely recognize, was one of the first big competitors in the affiliate marketing department. There were a few others, but nothing like the size of Amazon in today?s market. They began their affiliate program in 1996, and today they are generating billions in sales from affiliate marketers. That?s sales from people just like you and I and that?s money in our pocket.

While Amazon is certainly one of the bigger ?players? in the game, they are definitely not the only one. Today, there are thousands upon thousands of companies with affiliate programs. If they were lucky, they started out early like Amazon did. However, with e-commerce being as big as it is, it seems like there is always room for companies to jump in and become successful. The affiliate programs can reach out with almost any product. Some of the biggest markets for revenue sharing are retail, personal finance, gaming and gambling, travel, telecom, education, and publishing. The list goes on and on with new markets opening up daily.

In 2006, it was estimated that a near 7 billion in sales was generated from affiliate marketers. With that amount of money from sales, it becomes obvious how important this business can be. In today?s e-commerce it?s almost mandatory to get your business out there by revenue sharing. Not only does it generate sales, but it generates more customers that might not have found their business without the affiliate selling their product. This need for affiliates is good for anyone wanting to pursue affiliate marketing online because there?s a huge demand, and there always will be.

As you know, affiliate marketing online is most certainly a huge business. It has come a long way since its beginning in 1994. With the internet being such a big part of our daily lives today, the profits are only continuing to increase. That means, if online marketing interest you, there is definitely money out there to be made.
